Background

AnchorBridge Environmental Inc. is a justice-centered environmental organisation advancing environmental justice, equity, and people-centered climate action in Barbados and the wider Caribbean. Our work intentionally bridges environmental protection with human rights, social inclusion, and community empowerment.

As part of our organisational growth, AnchorBridge is transitioning from a reactive, opportunity-driven funding model to a proactive, strategic fundraising approach that prioritises sustainability, unrestricted funding, and long-term institutional resilience. This consultancy is supported through a capacity-building grant and is a critical step in strengthening AnchorBridge’s financial foundation and future-readiness.

AnchorBridge is seeking a Grant Writer and Fundraiser who understands our mission, aligns with our values, and is willing to grow with the organisation as we build a people-serving NGO for the future.

Project Goals

The primary goal of this consultancy is to strengthen AnchorBridge Environmental Inc.’s fundraising and grant acquisition capacity by securing new funding and positioning the organisation for long-term sustainability.

Specific goals include:

Securing at least two (2) significant grants during the consultancy period

Mobilising funding to support core operations and future strategic priorities

Increasing access to unrestricted and operational funding

Shifting the organisation from a reactive to a proactive fundraising and donor engagement model

Strengthening relationships with donors aligned with AnchorBridge’s values and vision

Activities

The Grant Writer and Fundraiser will be responsible for the following activities:

1. Grant Research and Development

Identify and assess funding opportunities from:

Research foundations

Diplomatic missions

Private sector entities

Private citizens and individual donors

Philanthropic and international donors aligned with environmental justice

Prioritise funders willing to support core, operational, and unrestricted funding

2. Proposal Writing and Fundraising

Prepare and submit high-quality grant proposals and funding applications

Develop tailored pitches and concept notes aligned with donor priorities and AnchorBridge’s strategic goals

Support the development of proposals for institutional funding

3. Donor Engagement and Relationship Building

Actively engage with potential and existing donors through meetings, presentations, and pitch sessions

Represent AnchorBridge professionally with:

Private sector actors

Diplomatic missions

Research institutions

Individual donors and philanthropic partners

Support relationship-building that builds long-term donor confidence and partnership

4. Strategic Fundraising Support

Support the development of a proactive fundraising strategy for AnchorBridge

Advise on systems and approaches to reduce funding volatility and increase sustainability

Ensure fundraising efforts are aligned with AnchorBridge’s goals, values, and vision

5. Governance, Coordination, and Reporting

Meet regularly with the Board of Directors or a designated organisational lead

Provide updates on fundraising progress, pipeline development, and challenges

Prepare and submit a final narrative report at the conclusion of the consultancy

Deliverables

The consultant will be expected to deliver:

Identification of a strategic funding pipeline aligned with AnchorBridge’s mission

Submission of multiple grant applications and funding proposals

Securing at least two (2) significant grants during the consultancy period

Donor engagement activities, including meetings and pitch sessions

A final narrative report detailing:

Grants and funding opportunities pursued

Funds secured and pending

Engagement activities undertaken

Challenges and barriers encountered

Lessons learned

Recommendations for sustaining a proactive fundraising model

Timeline

The consultancy will run for six (6) months, from April 2026 to September 2026.

Key expectations include:

Submission of an inception note or fundraising workplan at the start of the consultancy (April 2026)

Ongoing engagement and reporting to the Board throughout the consultancy period

Completion of fundraising and proposal activities by September 2026

Submission of a final narrative report by the end of the consultancy period (September 2026)

Total Consultant Budget

The total budget for this consultancy is BBD $5,000.

Payments will be tied to agreed milestones and deliverables, as outlined in the contract.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must demonstrate proven experience in grant writing and/or fundraising, including:

  • Evidence of successful grant awards and/or funds raised

  • Strong understanding of environmental justice issues in Barbados and the Caribbean region

  • Demonstrated knowledge of AnchorBridge Environmental Inc.’s work, and values

  • Experience engaging with donors, foundations, diplomatic missions, or private sector actors

  • Strong pitching, communication, and relationship-building skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with boards, staff, and partners

  • Evidence of past fundraising or grant-writing success (e.g. examples, summaries, references)

  • A brief written plan or video presentation describing:

    • How they will secure at least two significant grants

    • How they will move AnchorBridge toward a proactive funding model

    • How they will engage donors aligned with AnchorBridge’s goals and vision
