Background
AnchorBridge Environmental Inc. is a justice-centered environmental organisation committed to advancing environmental justice, equity, and people-centered climate action in Barbados and the wider Caribbean. Our work sits at the intersection of environmental protection, human rights, and social equity, with a strong emphasis on inclusion and non-discrimination.
As AnchorBridge continues to grow, the organisation is intentionally strengthening its internal systems to better serve communities and support meaningful civic participation. This consultancy is supported through a capacity-building grant and forms part of AnchorBridge’s commitment to evolving into a future-focused NGO that serves the people. We are seeking a Volunteer and Member Manager who is not only technically capable, but also willing to grow alongside the organisation on this journey.
Project Goals
The overall goal of this consultancy is to strengthen AnchorBridge Environmental Inc.’s volunteer and membership framework through structured recruitment, onboarding, training, coordination, and retention.
Specific goals include:
Recruiting a minimum of 30 new active members, all aged 18 and over
Expanding engagement among people with a demonstrated interest in environmental justice, particularly individuals from marginalised and underrepresented groups
Establishing sustainable systems for volunteer management, SOPs, communication, and deployment that support AnchorBridge’s programmatic work
Activities
The Volunteer and Member Manager will undertake the following activities:
1. Recruitment and Outreach
Develop and implement a comprehensive recruitment strategy targeting individuals aged 18 and over across the Caribbean
Prioritise outreach to students and individuals from tertiary education institutions across Barbados
Reach out to universities globally about their paid internship programs
Assist with recruitment of Board of Director
Actively promote inclusive participation, with particular attention to marginalised groups
2. Volunteer Retention and Engagement
Develop and implement strategies to retain volunteers through meaningful engagement, skills-building, and leadership opportunities
Build a positive, values-driven volunteer culture aligned with principles of environmental justice, equity, and non-discrimination
3. Onboarding and Training
Manage onboarding processes for all new members and volunteers
Coordinate and support training sessions focused on:
Environmental justice
Equity and non-discrimination
AnchorBridge’s mission, values, and programmatic priorities
Ensure volunteers are adequately prepared to support organisational activities
4. Volunteer Management and Coordination
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of volunteers, including contact information, skills, interests, and availability
Establish and manage a dedicated group communication platform (e.g. WhatsApp)
Deploy volunteers to support AnchorBridge’s programmatic, advocacy, research, and community engagement activities as required
5. Governance, Coordination, and Reporting
Meet regularly with, and report to, the Board of Directors or a designated organisational representative
Provide periodic updates on recruitment progress, volunteer engagement, and challenges
Prepare and submit a comprehensive final report at the conclusion of the consultancy
Deliverables
The consultant will be expected to produce the following deliverables:
A written Volunteer and Member Recruitment Strategy
A functioning volunteer onboarding and management system
Recruitment and active engagement of at least 30 members
A maintained volunteer database, including skills and areas of interest
Coordination of at least one structured training session on justice, equity, and organisational values
An established and active volunteer communication group
A final narrative report outlining:
Activities undertaken
Key achievements and wins
Barriers and challenges encountered
Lessons learned
Recommendations for strengthening AnchorBridge’s volunteer and membership systems
Timeline
The consultancy will run for six (6) months, from April 2026 to September 2026.
Key expectations include:
Submission of an inception note or workplan at the start of the assignment (April 2026)
Ongoing engagement and updates to the Board throughout the consultancy period
Completion of all recruitment, onboarding, training, and coordination activities by September 2026
Submission of a final narrative report by the end of the consultancy period (September 2026)
Total Consultant Budget
The total budget for this consultancy is BBD $5,000.
Payments will be tied to agreed milestones and deliverables, as outlined in the contract.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must demonstrate:
Experience working with NGOs, community-based organisations, or social justice initiatives
A strong interest in environmental justice, equity, and non-discrimination
Experience in volunteer coordination, community organising, or membership management
Strong organisational, communication, and reporting skills
Ability to work collaboratively with boards, staff, and volunteers
Application Requirements

Their experience and background
Knowledge of environmental justice issues in Barbados and the region
Knowledge of the work of AnchorBridge
How they will recruit at least 30 members and volunteers
How they will retain, train, and meaningfully engage volunteers
How they will ensure inclusive, non-discriminatory practices throughout recruitment and engagement
Their ability to work effectively within NGO and governance structures
