AnchorBridge Environmental Inc. is a nonprofit organisation environmental advocacy, education, and justice in Barbados and the wider Caribbean. Our vision is to champion the environmental health of our communities, enhance conservation education for youth, and promote environmental justice. We use our platform and resources to bring visibility and action to the most pressing environmental challenges, ensuring that those most affected are at the center of solutions.
We are committed to integrity, transparency, and accountability, we aim to build lasting relationships with impacted communities, continuously consult them and prioritise their needs in our advocacy. We believe in empowering young people by creating spaces where they can learn, innovate, and take meaningful action on environmental issues.
Our work is rooted in justice, acknowledging the intersections of classism, racism, sexism, and other social inequities that influence environmental decision-making. We align with partners and donors who share our values—those who respect the environment and uphold human rights. Through strategic partnerships, education, and advocacy, we strive for a more just future for Barbados and the Caribbean.
Director of Advocacy
We are seeking a passionate and strategic Director of Advocacy to lead and support initiatives that promote environmental justice and policy change across the Caribbean. This unpaid volunteer role is critical in shaping public discourse, mobilising stakeholders, and influencing decision-makers to create a more equitable future.
Key Responsibilities
Advocacy & Policy Engagement
Develop and implement advocacy strategies to advance environmental justice and climate resilience.
Engage with policymakers, civil society organisations, and international bodies to influence policy and legislative change.
Represent AnchorBridge Environmental Inc. in regional and international forums.
Research & Policy Analysis
Conduct research on environmental policies, human rights mechanisms, and multilateral frameworks relevant to the Caribbean.
Draft reports, and position statements to inform stakeholders.
Monitor and analyze environmental policies, trends, and emerging issues in the region.
Networking & Coalition Building
Build and strengthen partnerships with civil society, government agencies, and international organisations.
Maintain a detailed database of key contacts, organisations, and advocacy efforts in the region.
Guide collaboration with stakeholders working on environmental justice, and human rights.
Campaigns & Public Awareness
Develop and lead advocacy campaigns on environmental and social justice issues.
Organise and facilitate workshops, stakeholder dialogues, and public awareness initiatives.
Support communications efforts by contributing to social media, newsletters, and other outreach materials.
Strategic & Organisational Support
Guide internal and external advocacy strategy.
Design and implement succession planning strategies.
Ensure alignment with UN human rights mechanisms, Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, CARICOM policies, and other key multilateral frameworks.
Submit monthly reports outlining advocacy progress, policy developments, and engagement activities.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this role, applicants must:
Have a strong passion for environmental justice and experience in advocacy, policy work, or community organising.
Possess in-depth knowledge of environmental and climate policies affecting the Caribbean.
Be familiar with UN human rights mechanisms, treaties, and regional institutions such as CARICOM and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
Demonstrate excellent communication, research, and strategic thinking skills.
Have a strong network of advocates and organisations working in environmental and social justice.
Be capable of building and executing advocacy campaigns and developing strategic inroads to policy change.
Maintain detailed records of contacts and advocacy efforts.
Be adept at monitoring ongoing projects and initiatives in the environmental space across the Caribbean.
Be proactive, innovative, and capable of working independently.
Commit to principles of equity, non-discrimination, and inclusion in all advocacy efforts.
This position is open to candidates from any Caribbean island or territory and does not require residency in Barbados.
