AnchorBridge Environmental Inc. is a nonprofit organisation environmental advocacy, education, and justice in Barbados and the wider Caribbean. Our vision is to champion the environmental health of our communities, enhance conservation education for youth, and promote environmental  justice. We use our platform and resources to bring visibility and action to the most pressing environmental challenges, ensuring that those most affected are at the center of solutions.

Director of Public Relations

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Public Relations to enhance the visibility and outreach of AnchorBridge Environmental Inc. This unpaid volunteer role is crucial in building and maintaining relationships with donors, funders, media, and partner organisations while ensuring effective communication of the organisation’s mission and impact. The Director of Public Relations will also develop and implement media strategies, manage social media engagement, and use innovative approaches to reach new audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Media Relations & Stakeholder Engagement

    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with donors, funders, and partner organisations to support projects and initiatives.

    • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organisation in media engagements, including interviews and public speaking opportunities.

    • Write and publish op-eds, blogs, press releases, and other media content to promote environmental justice and the organisation’s work.

  2. Public Relations Campaigns

    • Coordinate and manage public relations campaigns to raise awareness about key environmental issues and initiatives.

    • Develop and execute a media strategy to amplify AnchorBridge Environmental Inc.’s advocacy efforts.

    • Monitor media trends and engagement opportunities to maximize visibility in relevant outlets.

  3. Social Media & Communications Strategy

    • Work closely with the communications team to develop and implement strategic messaging.

    • Use innovative approaches to engage audiences through platforms like Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Threads, Twitch, and others, focusing on youth engagement.

    • Create and implement social media content strategies, including interactive campaigns to build community engagement and visibility.


Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for this role, applicants must:

  • Have a strong passion for environmental justice and experience in public relations, communications, or media engagement.

  • Demonstrate excellent writing, speaking, and storytelling skills.

  • Possess experience in donor and stakeholder engagement, particularly in the NGO sector.

  • Have a proven track record in media relations and the ability to work with journalists and news platforms.

  • Be proactive, strategic, and capable of working independently.

  • Commit to principles of equity and non-discrimination in all communication efforts.

  • Have experience in developing media strategies and innovative social media engagement.

    This position is open to candidates from any Caribbean island or territory and does not require residency in Barbados.
